About the Association
The recognised state body for Ball Badminton in Madhya Pradesh, working since 2014 to build the sport from the district level upward.
Madhya Pradesh Ball Badminton Association
The Madhya Pradesh Ball Badminton Association (MPBBA) is the state governing body for the sport of Ball Badminton in Madhya Pradesh. Registered in 2014 under the Madhya Pradesh Societies Registration Act, the Association conducts state level championships, selects and prepares the state teams for national competitions, and supports affiliated district associations across Madhya Pradesh.
Ball Badminton is an indigenous Indian racquet sport, played five-a-side on a 12 by 24 metre court with a yellow wool ball. It is a game of speed, reflex and stamina, and it remains one of the most accessible competitive sports for schools and colleges because it needs very little equipment and can be played on any flat open surface. Read the history of the game in India.
Our work is carried out entirely through the district units. Every player who represents Madhya Pradesh reaches the state team through their district association — which is why affiliation, proper registration and transparent selection are the three things the Association guards most carefully.

Ball Badminton — An Indigenous Game of India
A racquet game played with a woolen ball, born in Tamil Nadu and carried across the country by the river basins of the south.
Organisation of Ball Badminton in India
Ball badminton originated in Tanjore, in Tamil Nadu. It became popular, commanding the interest of the Maharaja of Tanjore. The game attracted many players from southern India, and is about as well-known as cricket in that part of the country. Previously, ball badminton was an attractive game for rural boys since it required a minimum of equipment.
The game drew a large number of students from South India, resulting in the formation of the Ball Badminton Federation of India in 1954. The BBF was among the first three sports federations — along with the Indian Athletic Federation and the Indian Hockey Federation — to form the Indian Olympic Association in 1961. Ball badminton eventually spread to Andhra Pradesh, and the first national championship was conducted at Hyderabad in 1956. It was later introduced at the junior and sub-junior levels.
About the Game
Ball badminton is an indigenous sport of India. It is a racquet game played with a woolen ball upon a court of fixed dimensions by two teams of five players each. The game is also played by two players a side, called doubles, and by one player each side, called singles. This game was played as early as 1856 by the royal family in Tanjore, capital of Thanjavur district in Tamil Nadu, India. The game is widely prevalent in India and will strike someone new to it as a mixture between volleyball, badminton and tennis. The game attained popularity in the river basins of the Cauvery, Krishna and Godavari.
Ball badminton is mostly played in daylight and outdoors. As a result, climatic conditions do influence the trend of the game. Game rules were modified to distribute the effects of the climate more or less evenly on both teams. In recent years there are indoor versions of the game, played under flood lights. A good number of All India tournaments have been conducted regularly using flood lights in Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
